There are situations when Oracle customers are considering how to downgrade their existing Oracle Enteprise Edition databases to Standard Edition in order to reduce licensing cost especially in the situations when they want to virtualize their infrastructure for Oracle Databases. Typically they use Vmware or Hyper-V as virtualization platforms and in this situations Oracle licensing rules are demanding that you license Oracle Enterprise Databases based on a physical and not virtual processors and cores. And this requirement can significantly increase licensing cost. In order to achieve this goal to downgrade Oracle Databases customers are facing different challenges and most important is how to determine if their applications are using some of the features that are available only in Enterprise Edition. In my presentation I will explain how you can determine if your applications are using some features of Oracle Enterprise Edition Database. If they are not or those features can easily be replaced by features available in Standard Edition that you can proceed to downgrade to this edition. After that I will explain best practices in order to downgrade your Oracle Enterprise Databases to Standard Edition in a supported and most efficient way.As a result you can significantly decrease Oracle Database licensing cost because Standard Edition licenses are much cheaper than Enterprise Edition licenses and besides that Standard Edition licensing is based on processor sockets rather than processors and cores and that also reduces licensing cost.
